s.Pro, as part of an international consortium, has been awarded a framework contract by the EU Commission / DG MARE to provide support for the implementation of the Integrated Maritime Policy of the EU with a particular focus on maritime economy and maritime governance as well as the development of sea-basin strategies.

Together with eight other consortium partners, s.Pro will support the EU Commission / DG MARE by means of research and studies on:
  • the further implementation of maritime governance and its consequent contribution to the EU 2020 objectives and emerging needs in sea-basins;
  • cooperation at sea basin level, including to ensure the success of the individual sea basin strategies;
  • impact of maritime cooperation at different levels (local, national, cross-border etc.) on the "blue economy".

The objective of the EU's maritime policy is to promote sustainable growth through policy initiatives that will drive the blue economy, developing efficient cooperation and information-sharing arrangements amongst regulators and stakeholders, and ensuring the effective stewardship of seas, coastal areas and oceans. The implementation of this policy, and in particular the implementation of sea-basin strategies, integrated maritime governance or sustainable economic growth in maritime economy, requires the deployment of very specific expertise. This includes among others expertise for analysis of the marine, maritime and coastal economy as well as of the level of integration and cooperation between relevant sea-related sectors, gathering the opinion of stakeholders, identifying opportunities for improving governance, as well as efficiency and effectiveness, better use of cross-sectoral tools and integrated decision-making, and disseminating information on relevant EU activities. Specific contracts issued under this framework contract shall provide this expertise.

The indicative budget of the framework contract is €3,000,000 for a duration of 2 years.
